Ivonne Coll

Ivonne Coll is a Theater, Television, and Film award-winning actress born in Fajardo, Puerto Rico where as a child she trained in classical ballet and flamenco dance with Walter Mercado. This marked her artistic debut at age six with Mercado’s Baby Ballet company for the American soldiers in the Ramey Naval Base in Ceiba, Puerto Rico.

You may recognize her for her most recent role as Alba, Gina Rodriguez’s abuela in the hit series and award-winning show Jane The Virgin (CW)

Ms. Coll’s first film was The Godfather Part II. Director Francis Ford Coppola was looking for a night club act for the film while looking for locations in Puerto Rico. After meeting Ivonne Coll he decided to create the role of the Red Headed Yolanda so she could have her first film credit.

Other Broadway credits include the Tony Award-nominated Gabriel Garcia Marquez’ Chronicle of a Death Foretold produced by The Lincoln Center, directed by Graciela Daniele.

Regional Theater performances include playing the title role in Mother Courage at Berkley Repertory Theater and La Jolla Playhouse. Other regional work include Chicago’s Goodman Theater, Princeton’s McCarter Theater, Mark Tapper Forum, San Diego Rep, Arizona Theater Company and San Jose Rep Theater. In 2018 Ivonne Coll played the lead role in The Madres by Stephanie Alison Walker at Teatro Vista in Chicago.

Awards received include the People’s Choice Award (Jane The Virgin), TCA’s Outstanding Achievement in Youth Programming (Switched at Birth), The National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) Lifetime Achievement Award, Eternity Award Los Angeles Women’s Theater Festival, ACE Award NY Hispanic Media (Orinoco), Puerto Rico International Short Film Festival Best Actress (De Pura Cepa), Craig Noel Award for Outstanding Performance San Diego Critics Circle (Adoration of the Old Woman), Agueybana de Oro Best Supporting Actress (Coralito).

Marilyn Alverio

Having grown up in an urban neighborhood, Marilyn learned early on about the importance of giving back to the community. Her parents migrated to the U.S. from Puerto Rico in the early 1950s and instilled the importance of “la Familia,” our culture, language, and “La Communidad.” She earned a B.A from the University of Conn. in Storrs, CT and an M.B.A. from the University of Phoenix. Marilyn has worked in the corporate arena for more than twenty years where she has held numerous management positions within the airline, pharmaceutical, education, financial, and health insurance industries.

She is the creator and producer of the Latinas and Power Symposium® (LPS), which is achieving national recognition. The annual one-day inspirational and professional development platform is designed for the Latina on the go.

Award-winning actor

Andrea Navedo

Andrea Navedo starred in the CW’s syndicated Golden Globe nominated television series Jane the Virgin. Navedo received critical acclaim for her portrayal of Jane’s loving and outgoing mother. Navedo is the recipient of the Imagen Award for Best Supporting TV Actress, as well as the Elizabeth Peña Breakthrough Artist Award.

Navedo’s most recent film credits include Netflix’s Bright opposite Will Smith and the indie films, The Royal and God the Worm (opposite Annabella Sciorra).

Navedo also enjoys recurring roles on CBS’s The Good Fight (opposite Christine Baranski) and on FX’s Mrs. America (starring Cate Blanchett) in which she plays Carmen Delgado Votaw – a real life civil rights activist and presidential appointee to the National Advisory Committee on Women.

From 2010-11, Navedo co-starred opposite Luis Guzman in the HBO television series How to Make it in America. She has also appeared in several roles across the Law & Order franchise.

Other film credits include Superfast, Once Upon a Time in Queens (alongside Paul Sorvino) and the romantic drama Remember Me (opposite Robert Pattinson).

Navedo remains dedicated to various charities including as an advisory board member for A Place Called Home – a non-profit organization that provides safe haven, education and artistic development for at-risk youth in South Central, LA.

A Bronx native, Navedo divides her time between her homes in Los Angeles and NY where she lives with her family.

Lisa Vidal

Award winning actress Lisa Vidal is most recognizable for the multi-dimensional roles she’s played on television and in film for the past forty years, portraying characters that have reflected the diversity of the Latino community while also building it up. She stars in ABC’s new romantic comedy-drama The Baker and the Beauty. Based on the highly successful Israeli scripted show, Vidal portrays Mari Garcia, the hilarious and heartwarming matriarch of the family.

Of Puerto Rican descent, the New York City native began acting in Repertory Theater at age 14. She was cast the following year in the PBS series Oye Willie, jump-starting a long and varied acting career, which early on included appearances on the popular television series The Cosby Show and Miami Vice. She also starred in two “ABC After School Special” educational presentations – Class Act: A Teacher’s Story and In the Shadow of Love: A Teen AIDS Story.

Recently, Vidal starred opposite Gabrielle Union on the critically acclaimed BET series Being Mary Jane, which wrapped in 2019 after its fifth season. For her performance as Kara Lynch, Vidal received an Imagen Foundation Award for ‘Best Supporting Actress.’ She has also recurred on the Fox Series Rosewood and appeared on the Emmy-nominated Showtime series Shameless, FX’s American Horror Story and NBC’s Grimm. Her other notable television credits include Boston Legal, CSI Miami, The Division, ER, Third Watch, Southland, The Event, Chicago PD, New York Undercover, High Incident and The Brian Benben Show.

On the silver screen, Vidal has also starred in various feature films such as J.J. Abrams’ acclaimed blockbuster Star Trek as well as the television movie Odd Girl Out, for which she received an Imagen Foundation Award for ‘Best Actress.’ Her additional film credits include Night and the City, I Like It Like That, Dark Mirror and Victor.

In addition to acting, Vidal has a passion for music and enjoys singing and dancing. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her husband and three kids. A breast cancer survivor, Vidal is a vocal proponent of early detection and has worked alongside the American Cancer Society to help raise awareness.

Deputy Vice President, Policy and Advocacy, UnidosUS

Clarissa Martinez-de-Castro

Clarissa Martínez-de-Castro is passionate about strengthening civil society. As Deputy Vice President at UnidosUS (formerly National Council of La Raza), she leads efforts to advance fair and effective immigration policies and to expand Latino civic engagement by helping immigrants become citizens, citizens become voters, and the community overall become an active participant in policy debates.

Clarissa is a frequent media commentator on the Latino electorate and immigration issues. Martínez-de-Castro also designed and leads the Rise Above campaign, an initiative to build a positive, accurate narrative of our changing America in order to foster collaborative action. A U.S. Vote Foundation board member, a 2015 Presidential Leadership Scholar, and a Nantucket Project 2015 Catalyst Fellow, Martinez-de-Castro holds a master’s degree from Harvard’s Kennedy School of Government and a bachelor’s degree from Occidental College.

Director of Organizing and Partnerships, Voto Latino Foundation

Brianna Carmen

Brianna Carmen is the Director of Organizing and Partnerships for Voto Latino Foundation (VLF). She was born and raised in El Paso, Texas, where she first became acquainted with community issues and their connection to the ballot box. This interest led her to become one of the youngest Latinas in the nation to manage a successful U.S. Congressional race, at the age of 21. Brianna later worked on an historic Senate race in Texas, engaging tens of thousands in the Lone Star State. She has maintained her passion of connecting voters with opportunities to exercise their voice at Voto Latino Foundation.

Her current work at VLF focuses on managing the Campaigns Team, tasked with building up the organization’s volunteer network all over the country. She is also a leader in Voto Latino Foundation’s voter registration programs, working to engage grassroots, corporate, union and celebrity partners to support efforts to register 500,000 people and turnout 1 million voters for the 2020 General Election.

Eva Bermúdez Zimmerman

The daughter of educators Eva, at an early age was resolute on marching to her own beat. At 12 years old the Hartford native volunteered for Presidential Candidate Al Gore’s campaign. Using her public speaking experience as the youngest plaintiff for the landmark school desegregation case Sheff v. O’Neill, where the Connecticut Supreme Court ruled; “the state had an affirmative obligation to provide equal educational opportunities to every student”. Eva remembers underfunded classrooms and her bilingual program being cut all while losing friends to gang and drug violence that plagued Hartford during the years of her youth. The court case framed what would become her career in Organizing & Activism.

The polyglot Boricua used her time away from Hartford to help in humanitarian efforts in Brazil, participate a student strike in Puerto Rico and conducted legislative research for Congressman Rangel’s office in Capitol Hill.

After a couple years working in politics Eva found a home for her activism with SEIU “Service Employees International Union”. She now enters her fourteenth year as an organizer and tenth in labor. Currently serves as the CSEA SEIU Local 2001 Childcare & Organizing Director. Where she fights for affordable childcare, wider access to healthcare and improving the lives of working people.

The former Newtown Councilwoman was awarded Latina of the year by LPRAC of the Connecticut State Legislature for her role as an Assister in Connecticut Access Health Exchange. Where she enrolled of over 7,000 people in the first two years of the Affordable Care Act. She’s also served as the first Latina Secretary for the State Democratic Party.

Hartford, CT City Council Member

Wildaliz Bermúdez

Elected to the Hartford City Council in November of 2015, Wildaliz Bermudez is now on her second term as a Hartford Working Families Party City Councilor. She has fought around a variety of issues ranging from police accountability, housing, resources for immigrant communities, and refugee protections. In 2019 Trinity College honored her as one of “50 for the Next 50” and in 2018, she was named one of Connecticut Magazine’s “40 Under 40”, for her work in the community. She graduated with a Bachelor’s degree from Trinity College and a Masters in Environmental Science from Puerto Rico. She lives in Hartford’s Asylum Hill Neighborhood with her husband and baby.

Finance Leadership Development

Erika Porras

Erika Porras is dynamic Latina in the Finance Industry who continues to break barriers and is passionate about giving back to her community. Born and raised in Connecticut, Erika has made a name for herself in academia. She graduated from Bloomfield High School in 2014 as Salutatorian of her class and received a full merit scholarship to the University of Connecticut. In 2018 she graduated Magna Cum Laude from the UCONN School of Business with a B.S in Healthcare Management and Finance. Erika is currently in the Finance Leadership Development Program at the company where she works for the Retirement Investment Execution Team. Erika plans to further her career by obtaining a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) from an Ivy League school and instill the values of education, health, and pursuit of excellence to young Latinas across the country.

Executive Director, Hartford Parent University

Milly Arciniegas

Milly Arciniegas serves as the Executive Director of Hartford Parent University, a parent-led organization she was integral in establishing and launching in 2011, along with a group of Hartford parents. Over the past nine years, Milly has continued to work with Hartford parents, community organizations, school leaders and educators to develop a research-based model that provides culturally relevant courses and pedagogy, and ensures all children receive an equitable, high-quality education.

Prior to the development of Hartford Parent University, Milly served as Vice President of Technology for a private financial company for more than 10 years. During that time, Milly worked with parents, teachers, administrators, district staff and superintendents on a volunteer basis to increase parent engagement throughout Hartford Public Schools.

Manager of Diversity and Inclusion, Eversource Energy

Paula Parnagian

Paula Parnagian is Manager of Diversity and Inclusion at Eversource Energy, where she directs and leads the Diversity & Inclusion initiative, working in close partnership with executive sponsors and senior leadership. The D&I strategy includes the Eversource Diversity and Inclusion Council, 6 Business Resource Groups, and more than 25 working groups. Prior to joining Eversource, she was the President of World View Services for more than 20 years, providing diversity and inclusion consulting to organizations throughout the US and world.

She is a trained mediator, former math teacher, former adjunct for Cornell University, and former international software executive. Paula has been a founder, chair, or board member of numerous civic and professional boards and initiatives, including Citizens for Public Schools and Boston City-Wide Dialogues on Race and Ethnicity. She has been recognized by the U.S. State Department as a Top 100 thought-leader in Diversity & Inclusion.

Sonia Alvelo

Sonia Alvelo is President and CEO of Latin Financial, a financial services offering she launched in 2010. Over the past 10 years she had built a successful business and has made it her mission to provide business financing and resources to underserved businesses in the U.S. and Puerto Rico. She experienced first-hand the male dominated sector that she said was created “by men… for men.”

Today, Latin Financial offers financing over $1 million a month to different companies that need the capital to grow. Latin Financial’s goal is simply to help create a positive future for all businesses. She is a member of Centro Unido (CUD) in Puerto Rico, Association of Pharmacies (AFCPR), Association of Tourism (PRTHTA), Association of Gas Stations (ADGASPR), and BBB Connecticut. Most recently she was highlighted in Debanked Magazine and Centro Unido Magazine in PR.

Latinas & Power Symposium recognizes Latinas who demonstrate leadership in their respective areas, as well as contribute to the Latino community in a variety of ways. This year, and for the first time, we are recognizing three women. One is local to Connecticut, the second is from our regional area in New England, and the third is at the national level.

Tatiana Banhon

Tatiana Banhon has been in the insurance industry for over 25 years and is currently a Director for the Middle & Large Commercial Property Product team at The Hartford. The support of her sponsors and influence from past leaders have shaped her career journey and fueled her passion for Latino advancement in the workplace. Tatiana is on her third year of service as Tri-Chair of the Hispanic Leadership Network (HLN), The Hartford’s Employee Resource Group focused on Latino employee population. She also serves on the Middle & Large Commercial D&I Council. As a D&I (Diversity & Inclusion) leader, Tatiana is focused on driving greater representation of POC and women in leadership roles. In her current HLN role, she helped design a leadership development program that enables professional growth for members of the Latino Community and have an impact in their longterm career journey.

In addition to her passion for D&I, Tatiana also supports local the Hartford local community including active participation and promotion of ongoing American Red Cross Blood Drives, Fight Against Hunger (FoodShare), and Hartford’s Hart In The Holidays gift drive where the organization collects gifts during the holiday season to support thousands of individuals in need.

Azucena Maldonado

Azucena Maldonado is a trailblazer on a mission to transform women’s lives through golf. She founded the Latina Golfers Association in 2008 to introduce girls and women to the sport of golf for their personal and professional development and to promote a healthy lifestyle. #LatinaGolfers teaches women how to leverage golf as a business tool so they can advance in their careers/businesses and shatter the glass ceiling with a golf ball. What started as a passion and love of the game quickly turned into a movement with over 2,000 members in Southern California. Azucena has received numerous awards, was inducted into the Latino Sports Hall of Fame in 2013, and Hispanic Lifestyle named her a Latina of Influence. She has been featured on the cover of Southland Golf Magazine, and has also appeared in Golf Digest and Golf Business, SCGA FORE magazine, SCPGA Program Magazine, PGA of America Magazine, and Arnold Palmer’s Kingdom magazine.

State Policy Advisor for U.S. Senator Ed Markey

Jossie Valentin

Jossie Valentin is the State Policy Advisor for U.S. Senator Ed Markey and a former Holyoke, MA City Councilor. She served as the Massachusetts State Director for Elizabeth Warren’s 2020 Presidential campaign, making Ms. Valentin the first Latina lesbian to serve in that capacity in Bay State history. Before joining politics, her career was in mental health, substance abuse, and higher education including a 13-year tenure as an academic advisor at Holyoke Community College. She earned a BA in Psychology from the University of Puerto Rico and an MS in Forensic Psychology from American International College.

A proud resident of Massachusetts and of its LGBTQ community, Ms. Valentin has been with her wife for 14 years and “pays it forward” by giving back to her community as much as possible through board service, door-knocking for campaigns, and other grassroots activism.

Today, she is a board member of the Tower Club of Fort Lauderdale, member of Advisory Council of Hispanic Federation, founding member of the Women’s Council of the Greater Fort Lauderdale Chamber of Commerce and serves on the Marketing Council of Hispanic Unity. Yvonne Garcia serves as Chief of Staff to State Street’s CEO, Ron O’Hanley and as Global Head of Internal Communications.

As an active leader of local and national communities, Yvonne served as the Chairwoman for the largest Latino Professional Organization in the country, ALPFA. In addition, Yvonne was appointed by Massachusetts Governor Charlie Baker to serve on the state’s Latino Advisory Commission Board and was also appointed as the Chairwoman for the Greater Boston Chamber’s Women’s Network. Yvonne has been featured in Fortune magazine in partnership with ALPFA as one of the Top 50 Most Powerful Latinas in the United States three years in a row and just last year was named Boston Business Journal’s Power 50. Yvonne holds an MBA from Boston University in Finance and Marketing and a BA from SUNY.

Marisol Herrera was born and raised in Bridgeport, Connecticut, in a multi-cultural, English-as-a-Second-Language environment. As part of her commitment to the Hispanic and minority business community, Marisol serves as Board Member to the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce of Greater Bridgeport. Her background, like many modern Hispanic women, is eclectic. Yvette Peña

Born in New York, of Dominican parents, Yvette Peña has stood out since she was very young because of her bilingualism and “biculturalism.” After graduating in Business Administration from Baruch College (New York), she dedicated herself to public service and promote community initiatives in favor of diversity. She has more than 20 years of experience in the executive field, and her professional achievements include being the first director of multicultural marketing for Sports Authority (2014) and Walgreens (2011). In 2016, AARP named her vice president of strategies for the Hispanic/Latino audience in the United States and Puerto Rico. She is a new Board Member of the Friends of the National Museum of the American Latino.

Maria Rios

Maria Rios is a CEO, tech founder, AI trailblazer, philanthropist and global speaker on business.  

She is the President and CEO of Nation Waste, Inc. (NWI), the first multi-million-dollar female Hispanic-owned waste removal company in United States history and one of the largest minority-owned companies in the United States. NWI is a fully-certified, commercial waste disposal company specializing in construction, demolition, commercial/industrial non-hazardous waste removal, portable toilets and recycling services.

In 2018, Maria—in revolutionizing the global worker safety industry—launched a new division, Nation Safety Net, which leverages a technology solution powered by IBM Watson IoT. In the U.S. nearly 5,000 people die and approximately 27 million work days are lost each year because of injuries in the workplace. To keep workers safe and mitigate the cost of workplace injuries, Nation Safety Net, in partnership with IBM, created an IoT solution that uses environmental sensors and wearable devices to identify potential dangers and to help employees avoid injury.

Maria—a global champion for small business, innovation, procurement and inclusiveness—has spoken on economic development and innovation on world stages, including Russia, Colombia, Switzerland, Israel, India and Tunisia. Additionally, Maria she been a featured small business speaker at the White House for several administrations, both Democratic and Republican. 

Notably, in business, Maria has achieved quadrupled revenues and a 200% increase in job creation over the last decade. She has achieved global and national acclaim. In 2019 she was featured on the cover of Forbes Central America.  In 2017 Nation Waste, Inc., was awarded the exclusive portable toilets contract for Super Bowl LI in 2017. Maria was one of four minority-owned businesses featured by the NFL in its coverage of its procurement strategic plan leading up to the Patriots vs. Falcons NFL championship. Recently, Maria was featured as a speaker for Google during SXSW Interactive in Austin and served as a keynote influence at the Women Economic Forum.

Maria embodies a business mind and a servant heart, as she serves on numerous boards, including the Smithsonian National Latino Board, the University of Houston, the Houston Community College Foundation, the Texas Association of Business, the City of Houston Office of Business Opportunity and the Houston Hispanic Chamber of Commerce Foundation. Additionally, Maria served as a member of the Houston delegation to advance trade opportunities with Central America.  

In 2020, Maria was appointed to the El Salvadoran Consulate General in Houston and the Houston Airport’s System Delegation Economic Development Trade Mission to El Salvador.  Earlier in 2020, she was recognized by El Salvador President Nayib Bukele as one of the top Salvadoran-American entrepreneurs in the United States.

In 2019 she has been selected by the Consulate General of Israel for a tour to Israel for Influential Women in Leadership who are frontrunners and leaders in their communities and trailblazers in their professions.

Maria Rios is living the American dream, as she began her U.S. journey emigrating from El Salvador as a child. Her family came to the U.S. to pursue education and escape civil strife. Through reliance on faith, a relentless work ethic and determination, Rios graduated from Houston Community College and earned her BA in Business Administration and Management from the University of Houston. As a steadfast advocate of education and professional development, Maria has walked the talk, as she has graduated from the Stanford Latino Entrepreneurship Initiative Education-Scaling Program, the Dartmouth Tuck Education Program for Executives and the Goldman Sachs 10K Small Businesses program.

Adriana Sanchez-Dominicci

Adriana Sanchez-Dominicci is a first-generation college student born in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Adriana and her family transitioned to the United States in the year 2000 and since then she has devoted her time living in Springfield, Massachusetts to her studies and giving back to her community. Over the years Adriana has volunteered aiding high school teachers in bi-lingual classrooms and mentoring 1st year college students majoring in Computer and Information Sciences.

Adriana is passionate about STEM and the underrepresentation of women and people of color in STEM. She started her work with Girls Who Code in 2018, teaching young girls in Springfield about coding, leadership, and sisterhood.

Adriana is currently a Cyber Security intern at MassMutual focusing on vulnerability management, process automation, and data reporting and metrics. She is a member of MassMutual’s Association of Latinos at MassMutual and Allies. Adriana will graduate in May of 2021 from the University of Massachusetts with a bachelor’s degree in Informatics concentrating in Data Science, and a certificate in Criminology. She hopes to one day fulfill her dream of going to law school.

The organization comprises more than 9,000 women working at more than 100 of the top technology companies. Lisa Bacus

Lisa Bacus is Executive Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer at Cigna. She is responsible for Cigna’s global marketing and communications capabilities, which includes strategic market planning, data and analytics to help drive stronger customer insights and product solutions, market research, branding, digital marketing, customer experience, communications and public relations.

Bacus joined the company in May of 2013 after a successful 22-year career with the Ford Motor Company, followed by five years at American Family Insurance, where she served as Executive Vice President and Chief Marketer, overseeing all marketing, public relations, communications and actuarial functions.

Bacus has won numerous marketing awards, including four Effie awards, and has been recognized with numerous business, leadership and civic awards. She serves on several boards in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors, and is actively involved in the community. She channels her passion for education by providing scholarships for high school students to attend college.

A true maverick, Figueroa is a long-recognized leader in the traditional, multicultural, direct and digital marketing fields. She has built a successful career focused on generating awareness of the essential role of the multicultural market in corporate America. Prior to launching L2L, Figueroa was Project Director for Scholastic Media, and oversaw the launch of the #1 ranked PBS children’s television series, Maya & Miguel. Previously, she held senior marketing positions at The Bravo Group (a Young & Rubicam agency), Univision.com, Verizon, and Anheuser-Busch.

Figueroa is a sought-after presenter at industry seminars and conferences. Most recently, she served as a panelist for Radio Ink and Hispanic Unity of Florida’s E Summit on women entrepreneurs. Richard Alleyne

Deputy General Counsel, Property & Casualty Law, The Hartford

Richard Alleyne is responsible for managing the Property & Casualty Law group, which supports auto and home products, AARP, sales and distribution, commercial insurance and professional liability. He is a member of The Hartford’s Underwriting Risk Committee focused on overseeing the company’s product innovation efforts to meet the evolving risk management needs of customers. Rich and his teams provide strategic and tactical legal advice on regulatory compliance, business contracts with partners and vendors, judicial developments, product development, and assistance on various corporate transactional matters. During his tenure at The Hartford, he also served as head of the Enterprise Business Services Law group, supporting strategic and commercial transactions across the enterprise, including mergers & acquisitions and enterprise sourcing initiatives. Rich joined The Hartford in 1999 and held positions of increasing responsibility in the areas of complex claims litigation, commercial insurance, reinsurance, and personal lines. Before rejoining The Hartford in 2010, he was general counsel for a division of a global insurance company, QBE Insurance Group, where he oversaw legal operations for its specialty and reinsurance companies in the Americas. In 2014, he was awarded a patent as the inventor of an insurance product designed to mitigate risks associated with catastrophic events. Rich also served as co-chair of The Hartford’s Black Insurance Professional Network (BIPN).

Rich is a graduate of Dartmouth College and holds a J.D. from Syracuse University College of Law. He also holds a Business Mastery Certificate through The Hartford’s program with the University of Connecticut Business School. Rich was born in the north end of Hartford and he attended Kingswood-Oxford School in West Hartford, Conn. where he currently lives with his wife and two daughters, Ananya and Elyana. His avocations are philanthropy, politics, chess, soccer, skiing, and squash.

Rich serves on the boards of Hartford Stage, The Amistad Center for Art & Culture, Student Achievement Through Opportunity (SATO) and the Jumoke Academy Charter School. He also chairs the Kingswood-Oxford Parent Annual Fund Committee. In 2011, he was named a “High Achiever” by the Connecticut Law Tribune.

Tatiana Banhon

Director in the Property Product Team for Middle Market, The Hartford

Tatiana has had a 25 year career in insurance, spending the last 10 years in different roles of increasing responsibility at The Hartford. Tatiana joined The Hartford in 2008 as a Middle Market underwriting in our regional office in New Jersey. After 5 years, Tatiana relocated to Home Office assume the role of Middle Market Industry Manager overseeing our Real Estate and Healthcare books. Currently, Tatiana is a Director in the Property Product Team for Middle Market, focusing on strategy development and implementation. Tatiana is driven by continuous learning and motivated by the many opportunities available at The Hartford where she notes “Every day I learn something new and push my boundaries to continue growing.”

Tatiana joined The Hartford’s Hispanic Leadership Network (HLN) Employee Resource Group in 2015, and became one of HLN’s Tri-Chairs effective January 2018. Fanita Borges joined Webster Bank with 20+ career in commercial lending. She is a Vice President in Webster Bank’s Community Bank Operations group managing a Small Business Lending team processing loans up to $250,000 and providing decisions in 24 hours or less. Before she joined Webster, Fanita owned her own mortgage company with a strong focus on the Latino community. She helped many families achieve their goals of owning their own homes. Fanita is a member of the national organization, ALPFA (Association of Latino Professionals For America), and served as a board member of the Connecticut chapter for 7 years. She is very committed to her family and proud of her Puerto Rican heritage. She lives in Unionville CT with her husband and yorkie, and has 2 adult children.

Carola Otero Bracco

Executive Director, Neighbors Link, Westchester, NY

Carola Otero Bracco, Executive Director of Neighbors Link, has a strong personal connection to the Neighbors Link mission of strengthening the whole community through the healthy integration of immigrants. As a first generation American born of immigrant parents from Bolivia, Carola understands the challenges that accompany the immigrant experience in America and is dedicated to inspiring healthy integration in the community. Carola is bilingual and bicultural and is driven by her passion for empowering immigrant families and advocating for personal growth through education and economic development.

During Carola’s tenure, Neighbors Link has become a leader in designing, implementing and directing community-based, bilingual educational and cultural awareness training programs.

Before becoming Executive Director of Neighbors Link in April of 2004, Carola spent 12 years of her career gaining experience in financial management with General Electric Corporation, Ford Motor Company and Time Warner. She holds an MBA from Duke University and currently serves on the boards of the National Council for Workforce Education, Nonprofit Westchester, and the New York Immigration Coalition. She previously served on the board of Northern Westchester Hospital.

Providing leadership and vision for Neighbors Link is something Carola sees as her life’s work and she often says it is a privilege to be in her position as executive director.

Matt Cammarota

Sr VP and Director of Community Bank Operations, Webster Bank

Matt Cammarota is a Senior Vice President and Director of Community Bank Operations at Webster Bank. In this role he is responsible for all facets of home equity, mortgage, and small business loan operations overseeing $1.5 billion in annual originations. Prior to joining Webster, Matt worked in a similar capacity at two community banks headquartered in Washington DC and has more than 15 years of experience in consumer lending. His area of expertise is in operations, with a focus on customer service and continuous improvement. Matt is also active in his community as a volunteer and board member of Columbus House, Inc., a homeless shelter located in New Haven CT. He resides in Wallingford with his wife and two children.

Todd Campbell

Head of Enterprise Information Risk Program Office, MassMutual

Todd Campbell has worked in the financial services industry for 20+ years and is currently leading MassMutual’s Information Risk Program Office. He is responsible for ensuring that the company stays well positioned to stop criminals from stealing customer data through a robust, forward thinking, Cyber Security program focused on emerging threats, technology and regulations.

While not protecting the company’s digital assets, Todd spends his time speaking to the non-profit and school communities about how they can help protect themselves from cyber criminals.

He is a certified systems security professional (CISSP) and is currently a member of the LOMA Chief Information Security Officer Committee. Todd earned a Bachelor of Arts from Westfield State University and lives in Westfield with his wife and two teenage kids who keep him humble every day.

Keia Cole

Head of Digital Experience, MassMutual

Keia leads MassMutual’s Digital Experience organization. She is responsible for driving the company’s digital transformation efforts including the strategic alignment, design, build and delivery of all of customer-facing digital and mobile assets.

Before joining MassMutual, Keia served as Associate General Counsel and later Chief of Staff to the Deputy Secretary at the U.S. Department of Education during President Barack Obama’s administration. As chief of staff, she was a member of the Senior Executive Service and responsible for providing strategic direction and managing the Department’s financial, information technology, human capital, and risk management operations.

Prior to joining the Department of Education, Keia was a litigation attorney at the New York law firm of Wachtell, Lipton, Rosen & Katz, where she represented corporations and senior executives in complex commercial litigation before regulators and government agencies. She began her career as a financial analyst in Morgan Stanley’s Investment Banking Division working with media and communications companies. Keia received her bachelor’s degree from Harvard University, and earned her JD/MBA from Stanford University.

Dr. Nilanjana (Buju) Dasgupta

UMASS professor of Psychological & Brain Science and Director of UMASS Faculty Equity & Inclusion and Diversity Sciences

Nilanjana (Buju) Dasgupta is Professor of Psychology and Director of the Institute of Diversity Sciences at the University of Massachusetts. Her research is on unconscious or implicit bias, how it impedes women and people of color in science and technology, and solutions to promote equity, inclusion, and success of diverse groups in STEM.

Dasgupta is passionate about translating science to inform real world problems—employment discrimination, disparities in STEM, and the underrepresentation of women and minorities in leadership. She discussed the relevance of her research to policy and action with federal and state government staff, tech entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, university and K-12 stakeholders. She gave an invited presentation at a White House roundtable organized by President Obama’s Chief Technology Officer on barriers facing underrepresented youth in technology and research-driven remedies.

Dasgupta’s research has been funded by the National Science Foundation and National Institutes of Health. She received the Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Accomplishments in Research and Creative Activity, and the Distinguished Academic Outreach Award in Research from UMass Amherst. Level Playing Field Institute, a foundation in Silicon Valley, awarded her the Hidden Bias Research Prize. Dasgupta received her B.A. from Smith College and Ph.D. in psychology from Yale University.

Her background, like many modern Hispanic women, is eclectic. Ja’Nene Kane

Head of Robotics, MMUS

Ja’Nene is the Head of Robotics for MassMutual US, where she is responsible for the development and execution of the RPA strategy with the goal of driving efficiency through process automation. She is also responsible for providing oversite and management of the RPA project portfolio; including daily oversight of project intake, assessment, resourcing, deployment, and tracking. Prior to this role, Ja’Nene served as Vice President of Worksite Strategy and Enrollment, where she was responsible for the development of enrollment services for MassMutual’s worksite products, including enrollment strategy, technology, product support and call center functionality.

She is responsible to deliver the technology vision, strategy and objectives to support the growing Institutional Solutions business. Tara is a highly successful change leader with over 20 years of experience, seasoned in transforming IT organizations and driving large-scale improvements She is an expert at cultivating deep client relationships leading to the achievement of high priority business objectives, developing and leading exceptional teams, resulting in consistent positive impact to deliver significant results to the bottom line.

Additionally as a champion for Diversity and Inclusion, Tara leads and chairs the MassMutual Technology Diversity and Inclusion Committee with the mission of enabling a dynamic, innovative diverse and inclusive Technology organization by attracting, educating, recruiting, developing, retaining and promoting diverse talent.

She is a certified information systems auditor (CISA), certified information systems security professional (CISSP) and is also certified in risk and information systems controls (CRISC). Azucena Maldonado is a trailblazer and she is on a mission to transform women’s lives through golf. She founded the Latina Golfers Association (LGA) in 2008 to introduce women of all ages to golf for their personal and professional development and to promote a healthy lifestyle. The LGA teaches women how to utilize golf as a business tool so they can advance in their careers/businesses and shatter the glass ceiling with a golf ball. Recognized as a leader in the industry, Azucena appeared on the cover of Southland Golf Magazine and was in Golf Digest, Golf Business, SCGA FORE magazine, and the national PGA of America magazine as well as Golf Legend Arnold Palmer’s Kingdom magazine. She was inducted into the Latino Sports Hall of Fame in 2013 and currently serves on the advisory board of Women’s Golf Journal.

Casey Pantazopoulos

Casey has spent over 9 years in the insurance industry, dedicating the last several years to different change management and leadership roles at The Hartford. Casey joined The Hartford in 2009 as a Catastrophe Claims Adjuster. After 3 years, Casey took on her first leadership role, managing a team of operations employees. She has spent the majority of her career in property claims, but recently transitioned to learn a new line of business in order to expand her skillset. Currently, Casey is a Team Leader in our Workers Compensation-ClaimsPlus Organization. Casey is driven by employee development, diversity, and pushing herself to learn new lines of business and organizations.

Casey joined The Hartford’s Hispanic Leadership Network (HLN) Employee Resource Group in 2012, and became one of HLN’s Tri-Chairs effective January 2018. Casey has been heavily involved and is passionate about HLN’s members and growth. Estela Morales Segarra is an avid golfer who loves to be of service to her community. While raising a family, she has taken time to master a sport that requires discipline, endurance, and passion. Beginning at the age of eight with golf lessons from her father she competed at national amateur leagues in Mexico and won several tournaments. Soon after arriving in the U.S. she began volunteering, working, and networking in 2008 for the golf organization “The First Tee of Connecticut.” She currently serves as a member of the Hartford Oversight Golf Commission. Estela is one of the founders of the new 2018 Connecticut Latinas Golf Team (CTLGT) which strives to empower women through the game of golf in a fun and supportive environment.

2019 Youth Breakout Session

The theme of the 2019 Latinas and Power Symposium was Leading with Intention and Values. “Throughout the event, adult Latina leaders speaking and presenting to the attendees about leadership and empowerment. As Young Adults in High School we, Amaryllis Padilla and Maria Segovia, are very interested in leading the Youth Breakout Session for this year’s event. Our goal is to guide the student attendees to focus on what leadership is and what it means for them as young women leaders. We will teach them strategies and provide them with leadership tools on how to empower themselves to become future leaders as young adults. This empowering session will provide the girls with the skills they need to become leaders: vision, motivation, thoroughness, creativity, and most importantly, self-confidence. This session outline is influenced by the 12 week leadership curriculum, ‘La Mariposa, A Personal Empowerment Program for Adolescent Latinas’ that we both have successfully graduated from.”

Amaryllis Padilla

Student, Great Path Academy, Manchester CT

Amaryllis Minelly Padilla, age 17, is a young Latina from Corozal, Puerto Rico and is currently a high school senior attending Great Path Academy in Manchester, CT. She had the pleasure of attending the Latinas and Power Symposium in 2018 and decided to make this event her Capstone project, making a powerful ending to her high school career.

Amaryllis will team up with her friend Maria Belen Segovia and Lori Theriault, founder of WORK IT! at the 2019 Latinas and Power Symposium to introduce, La Mariposa, an empowering program for Latina students. After attending her first meeting during her freshman year, Amaryllis realized that this program was going to help her to transform into the beautiful butterfly she was born to be. This program encourages a positive lifestyle and personal excellence among young Latinas in a 12-week program. Amaryllis is looking forward to a career in Nursing in the future.

Maria Segovia

Student, Great Path Academy, Manchester CT

Maria Belen Segovia, age 17, is currently a senior attending Great Path Academy in Manchester CT. Maria has always been a person who dreamed of being a strong leader in the community. After attending her first meeting of the Latina youth empowerment group, Las Mariposas, she knew that she had found something that made high school even more exciting. Maria would learn about the importance of teamwork, resilience, empowerment, and communication, ultimately developing her leadership skills before graduation. Las Mariposas is an organization that really activated her natural leadership skills and she looks forward to sharing them with the community.

This year, Maria will be presenting at the Latinas and Power Symposium with the help of her Las Mariposas friend, Amaryllis Minelly Padilla and Lori Theriault, founder of WORK IT! to deliver a powerful portion of the Las Mariposas curriculum to aid young Latinas in understanding their personality strengths and establishing a clear idea of What Success Means to You!

Lori Theriault is CEO & Founder WORK IT!. Created in 2015, this program helps students understand their personality strengths, learning styles, leadership styles and is designed to bring about a beautifully suited career path and plan.

Before becoming an Entrepreneur, Lori put her Human Resources Management education along with her Operations Management experience to work in Manufacturing management for 30 years, introducing career growth and personal empowerment to hundreds of employees in Connecticut.

Today, the WORK IT! program is offered to students ages 10 and older all over the World and has unveiled many unique dream jobs with easy to follow personalized plans. She offers a unique, energetic, creative and positive approach with all of her students, young and old, to allow for an empowered work and personal life.
